LEAGUE CUP FINAL
Foxhole Sports Centre, Dartington, Totnes (Totnes and Dartington SC ground).

Directions from Exeter: take the A38 heading towards Plymouth and turn off at the exit signposted Totnes. Head towards Dartington and Totnes. Just before you enter Dartington turn left as you approach the church. Enter Dartington Hall Estate and follow the signs to Foxhole Sports Centre. Park in the main car park (spaces are plentiful).

Entrance fee is £2 for adults and £1 for children. Programmes will be available on the day.

 

ARGYLE RETAIN DEVON LEAGUE CUP

A Rhianne Parsons double helped Plymouth Argyle Reserves retain the Westward Development's Devon League Cup in style against a Plymouth University side determined not to go down without a fight. Argyle are beginning to make a habit of beating University sides as they won the trophy for the first time last season by beating Exeter University 1-0.

The Pilgrims started like a house on fire and were 2-0 up in the first six minutes. Chloe Roberts set up Ellis Glandfield for a fourth minute goal with Rhianne Parsons netting two minutes later by literally walking the ball into the net after her strong run into the penalty area caught the students defence flat footed.

Glandfield found acres of space on the right wing but nobody could take advantage of her pin point crosses. Argyle netted their third goal just before the break from a Parsons penalty after Roberts was sent tumbling in the penalty area. Minutes later Argyle skipper Becky Atkins fired in a fierce left foot drive into the far corner of the net to make the score 4-0 at the break.

Argyle piled on the pressure in the second half but excellent defending by Amy Gray and the safe hands of goalkeeper Anneka Daley kept Argyle at bay unitl Paula Pearce took a pass from Nicky Lake, before racing 40 yards to shoot past Daley for the final goal of the game.

Considering the University play in a division below Argyle, they were not overawed and adapted well to the occassion. The students' lone striker Coral Smith caused Argyle a number of problems and was unlucky not to score a concolation goal with her strong running. Argyle defending Jemma Rose was in fine form and Argyle goalkeeper Becky Annear had to be alert with a brave dive at the feet of Smith to prevent the students scoring a late consolation goal.
