Formation
Exeter Rangers was formed in 1982 to meet the demands from girls in the area wanting to play competitive football. Initially the team played in the South West League and later joined the South West Region Women's Football League.
In 1987 the team became the founder members of the Exeter and District League and had two very successfully seasons. The League and Cup double was won in both the 1987 / 1988 and 1989 / 1990 seasons.

The team rejoined the South West Region Women's League in 1990, and due to the club's previous successes, the team was placed in Division One. However, competition was strong and the team struggled for two seasons, eventually being regulated at the end of the 1991 / 1992 season to Division Two. The team did well in this division and in 1992 / 1993 Exeter Rangers became Division Two runners up. This gave the team promotion back to Division One. Rangers reached the Division Two Cup in the same season and beat Swansea 4 - 2 in the final. |
In 1993 / 1994 Rangers started the season off well, but unfortunately some games didn't have the desired result, and at the end of the season the team found themselves facing regulation. Fortunately, Dorchester moved to the Dorset League and the South West Women's League decided we could stay. Rangers reached the Division Cup and beat Tongwynlais 3 - 2 in the final to take home the trophy at the end of the 1993 / 1994 season.

After a good start to the 1994 / 1995 season, our form fell away and we were eventually relegated to the Second Division. We started well in the 1995 / 1996 season, but due to the weather our training sessions were limited, and after the Christmas break we were unable to win any of our competitive games resulting in relegation to the Third Division South. We left this League to become a founder member of the Westward Developments Devon Women's League in 1996.

We trained hard during the 1996 / 1997 season, motivated by the coaching skills of Sarah Boyce, and led the League for most of the Season. However, we lost a vital match to the eventual League Champions and finished Runners Up. We also reached the League Cup final, however this match was never played due to a dispute between the two sides involved in the semi final match.

2004 / 2005 was a hard season with a lot of injuries to the team. Despite some good performances, especially the 1 - 1 draw against Plymouth Argyle Reserves at the end of the season, we finished bottom of the table and were relegated to Division One. We have started the 2005 / 2006 season having had alot of training sessions over the summer (thanks John and new coach Rod!) and entries to numerous tournaments. Some fresh faces and alot of hard work cumulated in winning Rangers 2005 summer tournament just before the season started. |
